RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s top-order batter Sahibzada Farhan on Wednesday, expressed his frustration over not being given adequate chances at his desired batting position in the national team.
Farhan, who is representing Dolphins in the ongoing Champions T20 Cup, spoke exclusively to Geo News and once again reiterated his stance regarding his batting order, stating it is ‘difficult’ to adjust in international cricket.
"My favorite position is opening because I have always played at that spot," he said.
"I have delivered performances as an opener in domestic cricket and changes in batting positions can be disruptive.
“Look, it may work in domestic cricket or even in PSL but it is very difficult to adjust at international level.
"I have been playing as a top-order batsman for the past eight to ten years. So, when I bat in the middle order, it becomes difficult because in that phase a batter needs to start hitting after a couple of balls.”
When probed about his inability to make a cut into the national Test team despite being one of the top performers in first-class cricket, Farhan asserted that fellow top-order batters Saim Ayub, Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub are doing well in the slot.
He, however, urged that the domestic performers should be selected in the squad regardless of the uncertainty of their selection in the playing XI.
“The top order in Test and ODI teams are stable, the way Saim Ayub, Abdullah Shafique and Shan Masood are performing but if they don’t then other players would step up. But, I do not want them to fail.
"But domestic performers should be considered; even if there is no place in the playing XI, players should still be included in the squad."
